Measure the whole journey

A useful measurement starts with a clear question. A single number rarely describes a whole system: delays, queues and retries each tell a different part of the story.

Keep a baseline, change one thing at a time, and write down what actually happened. Repeatable observations are easier to understand than a perfect-looking dashboard.

Leave room for simple things

Reliable tools make the common path easy to follow. Small documents, readable defaults and a clear way back often matter more than another setting.
